Notes for Barnabas ARTHUR


He was left only 5 shillings by his father's will in 1793 while mostof h is siblings got land. Perhaps he had already collected hisshare?
Barnabas' will was dated 3/2/1815 and probated 7/20/1815.

He left a third to wife Nancy, including their current residence.

Five pounds each to grandsons James and Barnabas Maxey

Emancipation of negros George and Betty whenever law allows plus atrac t of land to "maintain their idiot daughter Amy" untilemancipation und er the direction of son Lewis and furnished with ayears provision when t hey leave and not to be considered part of theestate.

After that, equal shares to all children: John, William, Lewis,Barnab as, Caleb, Elizabeth Bowles, Fanny Pratt, Lucy Greer, andchildren of d eceased daughter Rhody White with deductions forwhatever they have alr eady received.

He appointed friends John Arthur and Samual Clayton as executors.
Witnesses were J Leftwich, James Floyd and John Clayton

He signed with his mark

He later added the following witnessed by the same as above::

Son John - negro man named Bob - $100.00
Son Lewis - 1 tract of land - $100.00
Son William - land and cash - $80.00
Daughter Lucy - cash - $20.00

On 8/24/1815 the appraisal by John Arthur and Sam Fulton totaled$4000. 16 and included 10 adult slaves and 22 negro boys.
