Notes for Nathan BOONE

Residences & events:

KY where he was born.

MO

From History of Greene County, Missouri, 1883:

"Capt. Nathan Boone, son of Daniel Boone, the old Kentucky pioneer, was o ne of the first settlers of Boone township, located in the heartof the a sh grove a large grove of timber, lying mostly in sectionsnine and six teen, in which the principal timber is ash and walnut.Nathan Boone's s ons were James, John, Benjamin and Howard. The Boonescame here in 1834 . It was Nathan Boone and his brother, Daniel M.Boone, sons of old Dan iel Boone, who game up the Missouri in 1807, towhere is now Howard cou nty, and manufactured salt at what afterwardscame to be known as "Boon e's Lick." The popular conviction is thatthe old Daniel Boone himself, g ave his name to "Boone's Lick" and the"Boone's Lick country," when the f act is that he never owned saltsprings in Howard County, and never eve n resided in that settlement.Old Nathan Boone died in 1856, and is bur ied in this township a mileand a half north of Ash Grove, with no monu ment to mark his restingplace, and only one or two books to keep his m emory green in theminds of Missourians. It was for Nathan Boone that t his township wasnamed, and perhaps this will prove, a more lasting mon ument than ashaft of marble or brass."

From local Missouri history:

"Before going to Texas, the McCoy and Zumwalt men had served togetheri n Daniel Boone's Mounted Rangers. They served under his son,Captain N athan Boone, in Lincolna County, Missouri where in April,1814 James Mc Coy was killed by Indians one and one-half miles northof Riggs Ford."

From Missouri State Parks web site:

John Small, MD posted at geni.com:

"Daniel Boone died the residence of his (youngest) son, Col. NathanBoo ne, which was an old-style two-story house, the first of the kinderect ed west of the Missouri River, and it is yet standing. A goodwood cut o f it can be found in "Switzler' s History of Missouri",page 180."

And again:

"During th War of 1812 he was a captain of a company of Missourivolu nteers. In 1820, Nathan wa elected as a delegate to the stateconstit utional convention. After his service to the state, heaccepted a comm ission as a captain in the lst Regiment U.S. Dragoons. After entrance i nto the army, he spent much of his time on the borderof Indian Territo ry of that period. He retired as a lieutenantcolonel after spending tw enty years of service in the army."

.
From the following, it appears his estate was not settled for 30years.
