7/14/1860 Gonzales Co, TX. At age 26 (was actually 28), Wm was stilll iving with his mother at census time. He did have property thoughwhic h was valued at $200/500 and was a farmer.
From Civil War records:
"William C. Zumwalt was a private in Co 'C' Calvary of Waul's Legion,1 862 under Capt B F Weeks command. Waul's Legion was the only truelegi on-type organization from Texas to see service during the war andwas w ounded during the war.
William Christopher Zumwalt was married, a farmer with grey eyes, darkh air, red complexion, 5 ft 8 inches tall and enlisted on Mary 8,1862."
The 1850 census said he was born in KY.
