1860 Same place. At census time Heathcote lived 2 doors from sisterR ebecca and Jeremiah Kimmel. Heathcote was 50 years old, occupationof f armer and had property valued at $3000/1000. His wife's name wasrecor ded as Anna, 40, and the children were James, 18, John, 16,William, 10 , Rebecca, 5, and Emyline, 3.

Austin, Henry G.Bell and Charles L . Lord, partners styled Henry G. Bell & Co.,defendants. Court of Commo n Pleas, Defiance county, Ohio. Henry G.Bell and Charles L. Lord, part ners styled Hendry G. Bell & Co., twoof the defendants in the above en titled action, residents of the cityand State of New York, are hereby n otified that Daniel Warner, theplaintiff above named, did, on the 14th d ay of December, A. D. 1868,file his petition in the Court of Common Pl eas aforesaid againstthem, together with the other defendants above na med, setting forththat, on the 6th day of March, A. D. 1865, the defen dants, BenjaminM. Chilcote and Hethcote Chilcote executed and delivere d to thedefendant, William F. Roop, their promissory note of that date , (withtwo other like notes of same date and amount,) for the sum of o nethousand dollars, payable to the said Roop or bearer, in three years from date, with interest annually; the payment of which notes wassecure d by a mortgage executed by the said Hethcote Chilcote & AnnaChilcote t o the said William F. Roop on the following premises, towit: situated i n Defiance county, Ohio, and being in Section five(5), Township five ( 5) north, Range one (1) east, commencing oppositean island in said Sec tion (5), at a point from which a beech treeeighteen inches in diamete r stands east one and a half links, and awhite oak thirty-two inches i n diameter stands twenty-two links, fromthence south with a variation o f compass of four degrees, ten chainsand five links, thence west ninet een chains and twenty-two links tothe St. Joseph river, thence up said r iver to the place of beginning,excepting therefrom certain lots descri bed in said mortgage, also thefollowing premises situated in said Sect ion five (5), commencing at acherry tree on the north west bank of the S t. Joseph river, nearlyopposite the mill-dam, running thence north wit h a variation ofthirty-six degrees west, eleven chains and three links , thence in asouth-westerly direction thirty-two rods, to the road, th ence southor nearly so along said road to the river, thence up said ri ver tothe place of beginning, containing nine and 50-100 acres more or l ess- said mortgage being of record in Vol. 5 of Mortgages, at pages 47 8and 479, of the Records of Defiance county, Ohio. That the said Daniel Warner is now the owner and holder of said promissory note so duethr ee years from date as aforesaid, upon which he alleges there isnow due h im the sum of nine hundred and twenty-nine dollars and ninecents, with i nterest theron from the 15th day of July, 1868, and forwhich sum and i nterest he prays judgment. That the said Henry G. Belland Charles L. L ord, as such partners as aforesaid, claim sameinterest in said premise s, as holders of one or more of the notes sosecured by said mortgage. T he prayer of said petition is for ajudgment as aforesaid against said B enjamin M and Hethecote Chilcote,and for a sale of said premises for t he satisfaction of suchjudgment, in default of it's payment otherwise. "Hethcote Chilcote aged 83 years, and Thomas Gillis aged 77 years,both r esidents of St. Joseph township were buried from the Methodistchurch a t Edgerton on Friday, April 14th. The deceased were both bornin the sa me month, January, they lived near each other and wereneighbors and fr iends for many years; they died on the same day,Wednesday, of the same d isease, paralysis, and were buried at thesame hour from the same churc h, there being but one funeral service.Mr. Chilcote was the father of J ohn Chilcote, and Mr. Gillis was thefather of Mrs. John Chilcote. Thus h usband and wife each attended thefuneral of father and father-in-law a t the same hour. It was asingular occurance."

Died

GILLIS, - At the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Chilcote, at Butler,I nd., Thursday morning, April 13, of paralysis, Thomas Gillis, aged77 y ears and 23 days.

CHILCOTE, - At Milford, Ind., April 12 1893, of paralysis, HethcoatChi lcote, aged 83 years, 2 months and 20 days.

In another column of this paper may be see the death notices of ThomasG illis and Hethcoat Chilcote. They had been more or less intimatelyasso ciated during the past thirty years, and died within hours ofeach othe r. Their funerals were conducted as one, and they were laidto rest in t he same cemetery at Edgerton, within a few minutes ofeach other. In 18 63 Mr. Gillis bought the farm of Mr. Chilcote, nearClarksville, and th e home of the latter became the home of theformer. Their children, Joh n Chilcote and Eliza Gillis, united inmarriage a few years later, and t hey with their sons and daughterswere present at the double funeral. H usband and wife each mourningthe loss of a father, while their childre n grieved over the death oftwo grandfathers.
