Notes for William H BEADLES


Malinda's father's stated in his will that her married name wasBeedle . Marriage records have it as Beadles.

His biography says:

HISTORY OF CLARK COUNTY, ILLINOIS - Auburn Township, pp. 200-202.

"[William H. Beadle] obtained the rudiments of an education in theprim itive schoolhouse with puncheon floor, slab benches, and greasedpaper w indow, and came with the family to this county in the springof 1850. H e was married in July 1855 to Miss Sarah C.Jones, daughterof Abram T. J ones, of Dolson Township. She was born in CoshoctonCounty, Ohio, Janu ary 4, 1833, and came to this county with herparents about 1853. Afte r the marriage of William H. Beadle, hisfather gave him the control of t he farm and moved to Marshall, wherethe mother died March 24, 1859, an d the father April 3, 1859. Thefather contracting his sickness while a ttending the burial of hiswife. They were characterized by their publ ic spirit, were membersof the Christian church, and enjoyed the confid ence of a large circleof friends. Subjectlosthis wifeby death March 4, 1 857, leaving onechild, Sarah C. Beadle. She was born December 26, 185 6, and marriedto Lewis Heath in February, 1877. Mr. Beadle was marrie d to hispresent wife, Malinda Chilcote, on the 17th of April 1859. Sh e is adaughter of Nicodemus and Anna Chilcote, formerly of Ohio, and natives of Pennsylvania. The father died in Douglas county December24, 1 879; the wife survives him and resides in Douglas County, Mrs.Beadle w as born in Morrow County, Ohio April 17, 1841. Mr. Beadle isa member o f the Knights of Honor, a Republican, and from 1878 to 1880served the c ounty as Sheriff. He was also served his townshipofficialy for sevral y ears. He owns a farm of 153 acres in Sections22 and 23 of Auburn Town ship; has a substantial farm residence on theWestfield road eight mile s west from Marshall, engaged in mixedhusbandry."

Residences & events:

1860 Clark Co, IL. If the name was slurred or the census taker hadon ly fair hearing, he could have mistaken the name for Beale. If so,per haps it was probably Malinda living 2 doors down from brother,Hethcole , along with husband, William Beale, daughter, Sarah C, 2,and 2 older C ampbell children.

1880 Marshall, Clark Co, IL. The census that year recorded Williamas t he County Sheriff. He was 45, Malinda was 38. The only otheroccupant i n the house was a 47 year old Richard Myles, farmer, fromOH.
