1860 Dolson Twp, Clark Co, IL. He was the only Chilcote living inthe c ounty while the rest of the family were in Edgar. At censustime he wa s a farm laborer with only personal property valued at$200. He and Re becca had 1 child. Next door was sister Malinda andWilliam Beadle.
5/30/1868 Douglas Co, IL. He purchased 40 acres for $10/acre fromthe r ailroad. It was located at S2 R09E T14N, the same location ashis fath er and brother, Ben. The transaction did not include hiscurrent resid ence.
8/31/1868 Same location. He bought another 40 acres, this time for$1 1/acre.
6/30/1870 Adding to his estate, he purchased yet another 40 acres att he same coordinates as before for $11/acre.
8/23/1870 Bowdre Twp, PO Rural Retreat, Douglas Co, IL. At censustim e he was listed as H, a farmer wtih property totalling $3600/1000.Wife R J was 33 and the children were daughters SA, 11, VA, 7, and sonJustin, 2 . Farm laborer, Dow Dalton, 18, was counted there with them.His father w as the only other Chilcote in the township but there wereseveral other s in the county.
6/20/1880 Same place. Hethcot, 43, was still farming when the nextce nsus taker came through. Rebie J was 44 and the family haddecreased b y one to Viola, 17, and Justin R, 11.

Jasper Lawson, son of Mary B. Lyles, was born July 4, 1876, inSulliva n Co., Ind. He is half-brother to Grace Lyles, whose historyis given o n page 2.
Dec. 3, 1889, placed on trial with Hethcote Chilcote, Hinesboro,Dougl as Co, Illinois, who has 300 acres of land.
June 1890, Jasper visited the home. Was well dressed and likes hishom e ever so much.
July 1892, Jasper visited the home last winter. Has been working thep ast year and a half with Mr. Fred Reese of Paris, who owns a machinesh op and foundry.
This arrangement was made with the permission of Mr. Chilcote, who ist he father-in-law of Mr. Reese. This year he will be paid $100. andhis b oard. Next year he will receive $200. and his board, when hewill have c ompleted his trade as a machinist. Is a tall fine youngman and is very w ell liked.
Dec. 11, 1894, still working for Mr. Vance and is one of the finestyo ung men in Paris.
August 1895, Jasper visited the home, well dressed, fine looking andg entlemanly. He is employed by the Massilon Ohio Std. Bridge Co.,buildi ng steel bridges in Illinois on a salary of $75.00 per monthand all ex penses paid and with a prospect of an advance. He is Supt.or Foreman, t akes a gang of men and erects bridges wherever they sendhim. He is a C hristian young man.
July 22, 1896, word was received here today, by the Chief of Police,t hat Jasper was killed while taking down an old wooden bridge at someto wn in Missouri. He will be buried there. Regniescat in pace !

6/7/1900 Bowdre Twp. At census time Hethcote and Rebecca were both63 y ears old, had been married 43 years with 4 children, 3 of whomstill su rvived. In the household were son Rosenthal, 18, servantRosa Hood, 18 , and two laborers, 52 year od widower Adam Mayhan and26 year old Osca r Cirkwood. Hethcote was a farmer.
