I, JOHN WHEATLEY, of the Isle of Wight County, being of sound mind andp erfect memory, do make this my last will and testament. I firstbequeat h my soul to God Almighty who gave it my body to the earth tobe buried i n Christian like manner where it shall please God to callme out of thi s world, and for my worldly goods and estate, I bequeathin manner and f or as follows:
Impress. I unto my son, JOHN, the one half of the land I live uponafte r my decease, and the other half after the decease of ANN, mywife, wit h all edifices and buildings that shall then be upon it withall other. ... and appurtenances thereunto belonging and also onepewter basin and o ne Guinea.
I give and bequeath unto my son, THOMAS, two hundred acres of land outo f the parcel of land I purchased of ROBT. ANTHONY FULGHAM, joiningupon t he land of WILLIAM GODWIN, and one pewter basin.
I give and bequeath unto my son, WILLIAM, two hundred acres of landout o f aforesaid...... of land, purchased of the aforesaid FULGHAMland take n out of that part of the land that joineth on Mr. WILLIAMLIGGETT, als o one pewter basin.
I give unto my daughter, ELIZABETH, one floral bed and rug coloredgree n, one ......., one new pair of sheets and one pewter basin, onegreat p ewter platter.
To my son-in-law, JOHN WILLIAMS, I give one shilling.
To my grandchild, ANN WILLIAMS, the daughter of JOHN WILLIAMS, I givea nd bequeath one large pewter platter and one heifer two years ofage.
It is my wish that if any of my three sons before they come to possessa nd enjoy the land bequeathed and given, or die without issue, thatthe s aid land be equally divided between the surviving sons and theirheirs.
And for the rest of my estate that I shall possess at the time of myde ath, I wholly give unto my wedded wife, ANN WHATLEY, whom I make mywho le and sole executrix. In witness thereof I have hereunto set myhand a nd seal this 21st day of Feb. 1670.
