MATTOON - Marvin D. Whitley Sr., 85, of Mattoon, passed away at 4:55a. m. on Thursday, May 5, 2011, at Mattoon Health Care. Visitation forfam ily and friends will be held from 4:00 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening,May 8, a t the Schilling Funeral Home in Mattoon. Funeral serviceshonoring his l ife will begin at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 9, at FirstUnited Methodist C hurch in Mattoon Pastor Ken Hutchens officiating.Burial will follow wi th Military Rites at Pleasant Grove Cemetery inCooks Mills. Dale was b orn February 18, 1926 in Mattoon, a son ofJohn W. and Ida Blanche (Lou than) Whitley. His mother passed awaywhile he was still young. His fat her later married Faye Carrington.Dale married Frances A. Miller on Ja nuary 30, 1955. Survivors includehis loving wife, Fran Whitley of Matt oon; daughter, Francie M. Danieland husband Alan of Tulsa, Oklahoma; s on Marvin D. Whitley Jr. ofMattoon; and daughter Nancy E. Dearing and h usband Trenton ofMattoon; his grandchildren Mack Morris II and wife Am y of BrokenArrow, Oklahoma; Cindy Evans and husband Rodney of Mattoon; A ngelaCampos and husband Joe of Nowata, Oklahoma; Laura Morris and fian c?Jarred Cudek of Owasso, Oklahoma; Jennifer Allen of Eufala, Oklahoma ;Amanda Williford and husband Allen of Gales Ferry Connecticut; Kayla Deere and husband Brandon of Arkansas; James Daniel and wife Brittanyof T ulsa, Oklahoma; Samantha Jackson of Toledo; and Whitley Dearingof Matt oon. 27 great-grandchildren and 3 great -great grand children.He was p receded in death by his parents, step mother, one brother,Gene Whitley a nd one sister Mary Jane Doty. Since 1972 Mr. Whitleywas the owner and o perator of Whitley Builders. Dale served in theNavy at the close of Wo rld War II and during the Korean Conflict. Hewas a member of the First U nited Methodist Church and former memberof the Pleasant Grove Baptist C hurch in Cooks Mills. Dale was amember of V.F.W. and American Legion i n Mattoon. Mr. Whitley's faithremained strong throughout his life, eve n during serious illnesses hefaced. Memorial gifts in his honor are su ggested to First UnitedMethodist Church or Pleasant Grove Baptist Chur ch.
