1790 Northumberland Co, PA. Listed in the census as Jno Vangunday,he lived alone between families named Derr and Zimmerman. In the samearea were his father and brother Christian Jr as well as Uncle Joseph.

5/25/1799 Buffalo Twp, Northumberland Co, PA. By deed, John received400 acres of land from his brother, Joseph Gundy, the property waspatented by the Commonwealth of PA on 5/30/1803. On 7/2/1804, he andhis wife, Polly, sold this same tract, probably because they had movedto OH.

1800 Where was he that year at census time? On the westward move?

10/1803 Chillicothe, Ross Co, OH. His name appeared in the localnewspaper among those who still had letters at the Post Office.

1/16/1809 His name was in the newspaper again for having a letter atthe Post Office.

1810 The OH census is missing for that year.

1/9/1811 Chillicothe, Ross Co, OH. In the Scioto Gazette was anarticle where Jesse Spencer, Register of the Land Office, regardingland for sale, mentioned John Van Gundy and George May.

12/14/1815 Springfield Twp, Ross Co, OH, was John's address whenanother item appeared in the Gazette stating that John Cryder hadreported the mare found by John had been appraised by George Weiderand Felix O'Neal.

1820 Springfield Twp, Ross Co, OH. At census time, there were 2 JohnVan Gundys in the same township, both over 45 years old. Which wasthis man?

Family #1 - 2 males age 10-16, 1 female under 10, 1 at 10-16, and 1was 26-45. Charles Search was 3 doors down, followed by ThomasSearch.

Family #2 - 1 male under 10, 2 at 16-26, 2 females under 10, 1 at10-16 , 2 were age 16-26. William Search was next door.

1830 Springfield, Ross Co, OH. Again the two families consisted of:

Family #1 - John at age 50-60 years of age, 1 male at 5-10 years old,1 at 20-30, 1 female aged 15-20 and 1 at 40-50. Next door neighborswere John Booker and John Overby. On the next page of the census were2 more John Van Gundys.

Family #2 - John at 50-60, 1 male aged 15-20, 1 at 20-30, 1 female at10-15, 1 was 15-20, 1 at 20-30, and his wife at 50-60. Next door wasJohn Zuck with John Jr farther down the road. A young Peter Van Gundyalso lived in the same area.
