9/12/1918 Ames, RD 2, Story Co, IA was his address when time toregister for WWI draft. Brother James Garfield registered the sameday. Lawrence verified his birth date and that he was a natural bornwhite. He was a farmer at his home address. Minnie Purvis was hisnearest relative. According to the Registrar he was medium height andbuild with blue eyes and brown hair.

William Lawrence Purvis, youngest son of Elijah and Dany? Purvis, wasborn April 18, 1884, on a farm in Union Township, seven milessoutheast of Ames and died at the Story County Hospital in Nevada,April 29, 1954. He was 70 years and 11 days old. He lived most of hislife in the Walnut Grove community where he attended school andchurch.
He was united in marriage to Minnie Rebecca Stahlman, May 12, 1907, onthe farm where they continued to live. Eight children were born tothem, two of whom, infant daughters, preceded him in death.
In 1937, because of failing health, Mr. Purvis moved from the farm toMedvale, where he operated a store and moved to Cambridge in 1938.Besides his wife, Minnie, six children survive: Mable Seversen ofNevada; Elsie Purvis of Ames; Sadie Miner of Anamosa; Bessie Kitchenof Nevada; Owen Purvis of the U.S. Navy at Pensacola, Fla.; and RobertPurvis of the U.S. Army, Devans, Mass.; also there are sixgrandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Two brothers, Orange and Theodore, and two sisters, Molly and Civille,preceded him in death. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Sibina Bates ofAmes and Mrs. Julia Woodward of Calendar, and one brother, GarfieldPurvis of Ames.
