As a sympathizer of the southern cause, he served with severalConfeder ate units and was in the battles of Pea Ridge, Ark;Lexington, KY; Kirk sville & Newark, MO.

7/28/1862 Monroe Co, MO. Reuben enlisted in the Confederate Armywith C o M 1st NE MO Cav, CSA.

10/6/1862 Ralls Co, MO. He was captured by Union forces and was sentt o a Federal camp at Alton, IL, where he spent most of the rest ofthe w ar.

2/18/1864 Alton, IL. He gained his freedom by posting $1000 bond.
