"GEORGE VAN GUNDY, son of Michael and Hannah Van Gundy, was bornAugust 1 , 1831. He is a native of Ross County, Ohio, and was reared afarmer. I n 1857, he became the owner of 160 acres of partiallyimproved land in t his township, where he still resides; he has alwaysgiven his attention t o agricultural pursuits; he was married,December 26, 1858, to Mary E. S winehart, a native of this township,daughter of Samuel and Jane (Milli gan) Swinehart, of German and Irishancestry; her parents had eight chi ldren-Nancy A., Rebecca J., MaryE., Hannah C. and Laura A., the only s urviving. To Mr. and Mrs. VanGundy ton children were born-Sabina A., b orn October 11, 1860; LouisaJ., March 11, 1862; John U., September 26, 1 864; Myrta, October 25,1866; Hettie, November 15, 1868; Dettie,
April 19, 1871; Cecil R., September 27, 1873: Harry, February 17,1877; W illie, February 9, 1878; infant daughter, May 18, 1881. Thedeceased ar e Willie, Dettie and the infant. Mr. Van Gundy is a strictRepublican o f the temperance turn. He and part of his family areassociated with th e United Brethren Church."
