1880 At census time, both John and Eliza were 69 years old with a 14y ear old daughter, Elva, making Eliza an old mother at birth. Morethan l ikely she was their orphaned granddaughter whom they raised,daughter o f Samuel.
The 1880 Agricultural Census showed him as a wealthy man.
The History of Franklin Co recorded:
"He remained at home, at work upon the farm of his father, untiltwenty -three years of age, when he was married, on the anniversary ofhis bir th.....After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Lisle remained onhis father' s farm, in Clinton, some seven or eight years, when theyremoved to Ham ilton, and settled on the farm on which they now live."
"Mr. Lisle has always been engaged in farming; has given strictattenti on to his chosen occupation; and has lived a quiet,unostentatious, but u seful life. He has held various official trustsin the township, and f or three years was director of the countyinfirmary."
