Notes for Jacob Bomberger WISSLER


His life was depicted in the Annals of Lancaster Co:

"He lived at home until he was twenty-six years of age, during hisboyh ood attending the common schools. He began life for himself atfarming , in Clay township, on one of his father's farms, where heremained twe nty-two years, after which he purchased the place wherehe now resides, a nd on which he has made extensive improvements; hishome is in the vill age. Mr. Wissler is engaged to some extent inraising tobacco, though h e is practically retired. In politics he isa Republican, and he held t he office of school director for someyears....Mr. and Mrs. Wissler ar b oth members of the Old MennoniteChurch. They enjoy the good-will and e steem of all who know them,and Mr. Wissler has always been regarded as o ne of the representativesubstantial citizens of the community."

Jacob and Anna had 3 other children, 2 died in infancy and the otherin c hildhood.
Lancaster Daily Intel Journal, April 29, 1912

"Jacob B. Wissler died about 3:15 o'clock on Sunday morning at hishome on the Lititz & Lexington pike north of Lititz of generaldebility, aged 83 years. He had been failing for some time, but wasconfined to bed only a little over two weeks. He was born in Claytownship, September, 1828. About thirty-four years ago he retiredfrom farming and built the house in which he died. He was a member ofthe Old Mennonite church during the greater part of his life.
The surviving relatives are the widow, whose mainden name was Anna R.Brubaker, one daughter, Lizzie, married to Christ. Risser, of Warwick,six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Three children diedin infancy, and one son, Joseph Whissle, three years ago. Two sisterare living, Mrs. Peter Roher, of Petersburg, and Mrs. Samuel Hess, ofEphrata. The funeral will be held on Wednesday morning, with servicesat the house at 8:30 o'clock and at nine o'clock at Warwick, wherelunch will be served. Services will be held at the Hammer creekchurch, where interment will be made at 1:30 o'[clock. Rev. JonasHess, Jacob Hershey and John Bucher will preach."
