His life was recorded in the Annals of Lancaster Co, PA:
"In his early days he worked on his father's farm, meantime attendingc ommon school and a term at the Lititz Academy, under Professor JohnBec k. There he mastered English, German text and German scriptwriting."
Rothsville, PA. "He entered the store of Samuel B. Myers asbook-keepe r, continuing thus for one year, when Mr. Myers sold outand removed to V irginia.
He taught school for three terms, working on the home farm during thes ummer vacations.
Brunnerville, PA "After his marriage Mr. Wissler intended to farm,but l and was so high in price at the time that it was consideredunprofitabl e to buy, and the Brunnerville (the Whitehall) store standbeing sold o n account of the death of Levi H. Yundt, the proprietor,the latter was p urchased by Ezra Wissler, the father, for his sonJohn B. Mr. Wissler r ented it from his father until 1877, whencircumstances beyond John B. W issler's control induced his father togive him the deed to the store p roperty. He kept the store from 1858to 1892, had the Brunnerville pos t office established in 1861, andheld it as postmaster until 1892, whe n he resigned the office andretired from business, selling his stock o f goods to his son-in-lawA.E. Lane."
His marriage resulted in 4 children, only 2 daughters lived toadulthoo d and one of them was still living at home late in life.
His death was the result of gastritis and heart failure after anillnes s of over four months.
