In Atchison County, Missouri History is:

"Van Gundy, Alexander was born in Ross County, Ohio, February 9, 1850.J ames VanGundy, his father, and also his mother, whose maiden namewas E lizabeth Moore, were natives of the same county. In 1865 thefamily rem oved to Atchison County, Missouri, and located in thistownship. Alexan der spent his youth in following agriculturalpursuits, and for a time a ttended the common schools of thisvicinity. March 16, 1871, his marria ge to Miss Susan E. Scarlettoccurred in this county. She was the daugh ter of James Scarlett andwas born in Taylor County, Iowa, January 27, 1 853. Mr and MrsVanGundy have four children: Mamie Josephine, born June 2 , 1872; AnnaL., born August 11, 1874; Homer V., born October 1, 1878; R ubieOlive, born October 27, 1881. One son, James A., was born November 24, 1876, and died December 15, 1877. In March, 1878, Mr VanGundysettle d on his present farm, in section 6, township 63, range 40. Heowns 255 a cres of land, improved, but gives his attention mostly tothe raising o f fruit. He has an orchard of 1, 400 apple, 800 peach,120 plum and som e pear trees, besides 750 grape vines and otherfruit. He is entitled t o much credit for the attention which he hasgiven to this important in dustry and is very successful in hisundertaking. His wife is a member o f the Methodist Church. He belongsto the Masonic fraternity."

1870 Clark Twp, Atchison Co, MO. At census time Alexander Vangundywa s a 20 year old farm laborer and living with Uncle John, next doorto h is father.

3/1878 Near Milton, MO. Being interested in agriculture from hisyout h, he acquired a farm of 255 acres in the hill country back fromthe MO r iver and put in an orchard of 1400 apple trees, 800 peach,120 plum, 75 0 grape vines, some pear trees, and other fruit.

December 27, 1879, occurred the sixth annual election, which resulteda s follows : J. J. Denny, W. M.; Samuel Van Gundy, S. W.; AlexanderVan G undy, J. W.; James Scarlett. Treasurer, and S. P. Jewell,Secretary.

6/14/1880 S Clark Twp, Atchison Co, MO. That year the census saidAle xander Vangundy o was a 29 year old farmer, wife Susanna was also29. T heir children were Mamie, 8, Anna, 5, and Homer, 2. Livingwith them w as 18 year old housekeeper, Alice Williams.

6/19/1900 W side Chase St, Falls City, Richardson Co, NE. In thatcen sus were Alex Vangundy, 50, wife Susan, 47, and children: Homer,21, R uby, 18, Una, 16, Cecil, 12, and Jesse, 7. Alex and Susan hadbeen mar ried 26 years, she had given birth to 11 children but only 7still surv ived. His occupation looks like nurserrman (nurseryman).Daughter Josi e and Allison Everett lived in the same town.

1902 Denver, CO, where he became a commission merchant.

?/23/1910 Cheyenne Ward 1, Laramie Co, WY. The only Alexander VanGun dy in the census lived there at age 60. He had been married 39years a nd still was but he and Susanna must have separated as she wasin Ward 3 w ith some of the family. Alexander's occupation wascommission of fruit . Living with him was barber Joseph A Simmons, 44.Daughter Ruby and Th eodore Helmer lived in Ward 2 of that city.

1/17/1920 Same place. That year Alexander Van Gundy was 69 yearsold, s till married but still no family. His occupation was salesmanat an In stallment (sp?) store. He lived in a rented apartment orduplex and li ving with him were grandson, Charles Everett, 18,occupation unreadable a nd roomer William Vliet, 50, also unreadablejob.
