Descendants said Jacob and Rebecca had 5 children but probably meantli ving children. Census records say he was a bootmaker.

11/6/1861 Chilicothe, Ross Co, OH. He enlisted for a 3 year stint int he Civil War with Co I of the OH Vols which mustered at Camp Loganwith L ouis A Burkett as commanding officer. He was in the battles ofMcDowel l, Cross Keys, Cedar Mts, Freeman Ford, the second battle atBull Run, C hancellorsville, and finally Gettysburg where he waswounded. The woun d supposedly contributed to his death years later.
4/18/1864 Baltimore, MD was where he received his discharge ondisabil ity. Some family traditions say that he lost a leg.
6/9/1870 Huntington Twp, PO Chillicothe, Ross Co, OH. Havingmarried, h e lived next door to his parents at census time. He was 29years old, a f arm laborer with property worth $400/200. Rebecca Jwas 21 and they ha d 1 little girl, Eliza C, 1.
6/7/1880 Same place. By the next census they had moved down the roada f ew doors where Jacob was listed as a 39 year old farmer, Rebecawas 29. T he family had grown to include daughter Linsey, 10, sonsGorge, 8, and H enry, 6, and little Maria, 2. Neighbors were Davisfamilies.
Cemetery records say he died 11/1/1880.
Jacob's gravestone says " 73rd Ohio Infantry-Distinguished ServiceAwar d."
