Did the "V" that John used as middle initial stand for "Van?" Marriager ecords with his last two wives have "L" for the middle initial.
Ancestry says John was an architect but census records do not supportt hat.

Second wife Martha was 30 , she and bothparents born i n IA; 2 year old John was their only child and he wasborn in MO. Brot her William lived in the same township and in AustinTwp, was brother J acob.
6/14/1900 Kirkpatrick St, Eldorado Springs, Cedar Co, MO. That yearJ ohn Gundy was 70 years old with the occupation of day laborer. Hehad b een married 7 years to 3rd wife, Pheby, 47, who had birthed 7children b ut only 3 still survived. Living with them were his sonJohn, 21, and s tep-daughter, Cecil Bright, 14.
4/19/1910 Same place. At census time listed John Gundy was an 81year o ld widower, a printer in a printing office. Son John L, 32,and his wi fe, Lena, 35, lived with him. All were born in MO.
1/6/1920 Still there. By that census time, John, 90, had retired ands on John L, 41 was then head of the household with his wife Jetta,40. T hey were the only residents there.
The death certificate says:
Dr O A Schmidt from the hospital where John had been for the past 9mon ths, 4 days served was informant as well as physician. John'susual pl ace of residence was Eldorado Springs, Cedar Co, MO. Hisbirth date an d place were verified as well as his father's name andplace of birth. H is mother's name was unknown but she was born inPA.
The cause of death was arteriosclerosis complicated by chronicnephriti s.
The death certificate says he was to be buried in Springfield, MO buta pparently descendants had other ideas.
