Originally from Pennsylvania he hadlived in H arrison County for awhile, and after a residence for a timein Franklin T ownship, he returned to Harrison County. Again changinghis place of ab ode, he sojourned in Wood County for a brief season,then returned to t his county and died here."

"In the southwestern part of the township, in the northwestern part ofS ection 1, stands an old frame Methodist meeting-house, known as theHol mes Church. The membership of the society that worships here issmall, b ut its existence dates back more than forty years. Among theearly memb ers were Adam Riggle, Benjamin Gundy, Sherrod Ricketts,John Salsbury a nd Mr. Conwell." Warren Twp
"The church edifice in Strasburg is the property of the UnitedBrethren s ociety. It is a frame building 34 x 44 feet, and was builtabout 1853, a t an expense of $1,200. Prior to this, the society hadheld services in a u nion church, built in 1833, one-half mile northof the village. The Uni ted Brethren, Methodists and Lutheranscontributed to its erection. The e arliest meetings of the UnitedBrethren society were conducted at priva te houses. The earliestmembership included Abraham Forney, John Forney , George Sees.Christian Gnagy, Benjamin Gundy and John Shisler. Abraha m Forney.Mathias Burchfield and Christian Gnagy were early local preac hers.Among the earliest ministers were Revs. Joseph Gundy, George Pfri mer,George Drum and Jacob Winters. Rev. B. F. Booth is the present minister. The congregation exceeds 100 members."

"Politically, Benjamin was a Whig. He was a prominent citizen ofMonroe T ownship, often holding the office of school director and thatof Townsh ip Trustee. He was a member of the United Brethren in Christchurch." A s a member of that church meetings were held at his oldhome near Bower ston before the church itself was built.
10/3/1850 Union Twp, Tuscawaras Co, OH. At census time he was a 59ye ar old farmer with $4000 worth of real estate. Living with him wasthi rd wife, Barbara, and six Arnold step-children.
Benjamin was buried with wife Magdalene, cemetery records have hisdate s as 1801-1871, neither date can be correct.
