1838 Johnson Twp, Clark Co, IL. He "settled in S13 where he enteredl and on which he afterward built a mill. The mill stood on NorthFork, f rom which it received the power that operated it, and was runby Davee a bout fifteen years and afterward sold to F. Johnson."

Know all men by these presents That we, Zachariah Davee Jr. andSusannah Davee, his wife, of the county of Clark, and state ofIllinois, for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred dollarsto us in hand paid before the ensealing and delivery of these presentsby Joseph Davee of the county of Clark, and state of Illinois, havegranted, bargained, and we do hereby grant, bargain, sell, assign,convey, and confirm to him the said Joseph Davee, the following tractor parcel of land, lying and being situated in the County of Clark,and state of Illinois, and particularly known and described asfollows, to wit: It being the half of the undivided eighty of the Easthalf of the North East quarter of section No. fifteen in Township No.Nine and North of Range No. fourteen West containing forty acres, bethe same more or less. To have and to hold the above described tractor parcel of land, together with all and singular the rights,privileges and appurtenances, unto the same in any wise belonging orappertaining to him the said Joseph Davee, and to his and their heirsand assigns forever: and we do further for our heirs, Executors andadministrators with the said Joseph Davee, his heirs, executors,administrators, and assigns that we are lawfully seized of the abovedescribed premises as of a sure, perfect and indefensible estate infee simple; and that we with, and our heirs, Executors andadministrators, shall forever warrant and defend the said tract orparcel of land with all the appurtenances as aforesaid, to the saidJoseph Davee, and to his heirs and assigns, against the claim orclaims of all person or persons lawfully claiming or to claim thesame, or any part thereof.

Received from Zachariah Davee Jr. & Henry Davee of Clark County,Illinois the sum of one hundred dollars and cents; being in full forthe East half of the North East quarter of section No. fifteen inTownship c No. nine & North of Range No. fourteen West containingEighty acres and--hundredths, at $1.25 per acre; and for which tract,or such portion thereof shall have been ascertained not to be claimedby a valid right of pre-emption under the act of twenty second termeighteen hundred and thirty eight, or that of the first of Termeighteen hundred and forty, a patent will be issued after thetwenty-second Term, eighteen hundred and forty-two; and this receiptwill entitle the purchasee or assignee to a return of the purchasemoney, without interest, of this land claimed by such preemptionright, or of the whole tract at his option $100.
