His biography states: "At eighteen years of age he began teachingscho ol, and about the same time began reading medicine. During thewinter o f 1868-69 he attended Eclective medical Institute atCincinnati, and in t he spring of 1869 began the practice of hisprofession at Greenup, Cumb erland County, Illinois. he continued inactive and successful practic e for twelve years.....Dr. Goodwin is astanch Republican. In 1877 he w as elected Treasurer of CumberlandCounty, was re-elected in 1879, and e lected again in 1881 to servefour years......Dr. Goodwin is one of the m sot energetic men ofCumberland County, and one of its most valued citi zens. He is amember of the I.O.O.F., and now reisdes in Toledo."
