Notes for James Jackson DAVEE


Descendants say he was married 4 times but his first 3 children do notf it into his first marriage according to their birth dates.

Residences & events:

1860 Cumberland Co, IL. He and brother Grant were the only ones fromh is father's first family who were still at home.

1870 Hidalgo, Crooked Creek Twp, Jasper Co, IL. At census time,James w as listed as a farmer, at age 28, but had no property. Louisawas 19 a nd the children listed were Lizia J, 8, William 5, andAlwildia (?), 9 m onths. There was a Francis Elliott, 73, born in KY,living with them, C onnors were on both sides of them and 2 doors downwas brother-in-law, C alvin Gipson.

1880 Greenup, Cumberland Co, IL. At census time he had married againw ith a new daughter. Listed were James at 36 with occupation of"works o n farm, " Mary, 22, her daughter, Sarah, 1, and children fromprevious m arriages, William, 15 and Allic, 10. They were the onlyDavees in the c ounty.

1900 Salamanca Twp, Cherokee Co, KS. Having followed the westwardmove ment, the census taker found them there, listing James J at age56, mar ried 21 years, with the occupation of farm laborer. Wife Emmawas 42, h ad birthed 6 children but only 3 still survived. Livingwith them were J ames, 19, and Albert, 16.

1910 The families whereabouts that year at census time is unknown.

1920 Muncrief, McClain Co, OK. That year Jim Davee, 77, was awidower a nd living with widowed nephew, George C Parker, and George'swidowed mo ther, Katie.
Was this man crippled?

The death by lightning of Grant Davee, recently, calls to mind thefact t hat of five sons, the Rev. Ben Davee, who grew to manhood, butone rema ins; and he unfortunately is a cripple for life-some timelast winter, w e believe, a tree having fallen on him, breaking hislegs.
