Notes for Maud E PURVIS

Maud inherited a quilt from her parents which she in turn passed to
her daughter. The daughter returned it to Moultrie Co, IL, as a
museum gift. The quilt was unique to the area, being a church fund
raiser of olden days. Folks paid ten cents to have their name
embroidered on patches of velvet, silk, satin, wool, or taffeta which
were then featherstitched together and sewn to a backing of dark red
quilted cotton sateen-like material. The quilt was then auctioned
off, going to Mr JW Bolin, Maud's step-father.
