A granddaughter said she was an active lady up until her 90s, drinkingb lack boiled coffee from morning till night and hoeing weeds.
Following John's death she and daughter, Grace, took over the farm.The y mended fences, milked cows, raised a truck garden and soldvegetables a nd produce at the Farm Women's Market in El Reno everySaturday.
However, on 2/3/1920, shortly after John's death, the census shows sonD elbert as head of the household. Mary was 64, Grace was 36.
By 4/16/1930 Delbert had moved out and Mary was again head of thehouse a t age 74 with daughter Grace, 46, and grandson, John, 19. Sheand Grac e were farmers while John was farm laborer, probably helpingthem out. M ary owned the home the lived in.
Her death occured after breaking a hip.
She was buried beside husband, John.
