7/6/1870 Gilroy, Santa Clara Co, CA. Listed as H Van, Gundy was thel ast name, he was 40 years old and had amassed a large estate for theda y worth $5000/1000 (Had he found gold?) Wife Martha was 24 andtheir c hildren were Grant, 7, Amelia, 4, and Martha, 1. Living withthem were S aml Bailey, 24, laborer and Lang Ah (?), 24, also alaborer. Head of t he house next door was also an Ah.
6/23/1880 Salinas, San Luis Obispo Co, CA. The census taker recordedH iram at age 51, a farmer, with wife Martha, 35, and a house full ofchi ldren: Grant, 17, Amelia, 14, Martha, 11, May, 7, Ralph, 4, andEmmett , 1. In the same county was brother William.
