"John, son of George and Elizabeth (Gearhard) Schweyer, was born inKut ztown, Berks county, Pennsylvania; died, January 15, 1876; wasburied i n Union cemetery, near Mifflintown, Juniata county,Pennsylvania. He se ttled in Mifflintown in 1832, purchasedconsiderable real estate the fo llowing year, and from that time wasone of the large property holders o f that section of the country. Hewas also extensively engaged in the m anufacture of furniture, andevery summer shipped numerous boatloads of f urniture down the Juniatacanal and up and down the Susquehanna, to all t he towns along theline, including Harrisburg, Williamsport and Wilkes- Barre. Hemarried, 1832, Elizabeth Van Gundy, born in Buffalo Valley, U nioncounty, Pennsylvania, a great-granddaughter of Christian Van Gundy ,who was engaged in a seven years' lawsuit with Ludwig Derr for the land on which Lewis-
burg, Pennsylvania, now stands. They had three children, of whom twodi ed in infancy."
