1860 Attica, Fountain Co, IN. At census time he was a 36 year oldphysician with property valued at $24,000/500. Wife Sarah was 32 andthey had 4 children: Samuel, 13; Elizabeth, 8; Alta, 3; and Marta, 1.Sarah's aged mother also lived with them.
12/6/1862 He enlisted as Assistant Surgeon in Co S, 60th IndianaInfantry and was commissioned 5 days later.
8/8/1863 He resigned from his duties in the service.
6/7/1870 Same place. Apparently Alex gave up medicine, being listeda s a lumber dealer in the census that year. He was 42, born in IN,and had property worth $2000./13,000. Sarah was 38, children in thehouse were daughters Lizzie, 17, and Ellen, 13, and son Euphrates, 5.
