The Cresap family was full of men named Van so he may have been namedf or one of them rather than merely a play on the Van Gundy name. Heeve ntually adopted Vance C Gundy as his name rather than Van C VanGundy.

Mary h ad $730 worth of personal property of her own.
6/5/1880 Erie, Sedgwick Co, KS. Before the next census Vance had losta w ife, remarried and moved west. Recorded there were Vance CVangandy, 3 0 Maggie, 30, William, 10, and Alie F (Laura ?), 7. Vancewas a farmer .
1887 Kansas City, Jackson Co, MO. A little girl was born there.
6/5/1900 Kingsville, Johnson, MO. In that census Vance Vangundy, 54,h ad been married 24 years to Maggie, 40, who had given birth to 8childr en but only these two still survived: Otis, 8, and Lester, 6.Son James l ived in the same area.
4/20/1910 Corydon, Wayne Co, IA. The family had moved again beforeth e next cesnsus Vance C Van Gundy was 69, Margaret A, 51, the secondmar riage for both, they were married 34 years, she had birthed sevenchldr en but only Otis G, 18, and Ray L, 16 still survived. Vance wasretire d with his own income, Otis labored on the farm.
Vance died only a couple of weeks later.
Cemetery records say he was born 1846, the 1900 census also says1846..
