Notes for Richard POWELL


If Thomas and Mary married in 1722, Richard had to be a son by a firstw ife.

Betty Renfroe's post at Rootsweb Archives says:

"Thomas powell jr. may have had a son named richard powell who marriede lizabeth ??? and lived in amherst co va. he was of age by 1728. hischi ldren are: edmund, wiatt, clary powell who married david woodruff(she w as born in 1739), richard jr., john, rhoda, winfred, andthomas. rhoda m arried john tucker. many of this family went tolincoln co ky."

And from My Powell Family Ancestral Line by Pat Mount:

"Richard POWELL [Sr.], b. about 1705 in Essex Co., VA, d. about 1774in A mherst Co., VA; m. to Elizabeth ____ (b. unknown, d. 1835); theyreside d in Goochland Co., then Albemarle Co., then Amherst Co., VA"

"In this will, dated January 25, 1766, proved August 4, 1774, he(Richa rd) leaves his son, Wyatt, 400 acres on Thresher's Creek inAmherst Cou nty. This land Richard had patented in 1730 (State LandOffice Book 30, p age 34). Besides Wyatt, Richard had Edmund, namedfirst in the will; Th omas; John, who predeceased his father; Richard;Winifred; Rhoda, under 1 4 at the making of her father's will; andClara (1739 - February 22, 18 25), who married Capt. David Woodroof.The first name of Richard's wife w as Elizabeth."
