Joseph was named for Ohio's Governor Joseph Vance who was a boyhood
friend and fellow soldier in the War of 1812, with his father.
He served as clerk of the penitentiary of Franklin Co, Oh, for years.
Joseph's will named his wife, Emily, Ball, and daughter, Emily. His
wife was co-executor with Orrin Backus.
