His death was reported in the 6/29/1878 Journal newspaper:
"Joseph Davis - age 10, son of Joshua Davis, a carpenter ofCheste rville, drowned in the Okaw. He and Noah Painter, same age,were in a s mall boat propelled by single paddle and he fell out ofboat as passing u nder Midland R.R. bridge."
