Notes for Jacob W "Cob" WISSLER


It seems many of Jacob's children spelled the name as Whisler.

Residences & events:

1830 Salt Creek Twp, Pickaway Co, OH. The census taker found himlivi ng next door to the family of sister Nancy and John Van Gundy.His hou sehold included 3 males under 5, himself at 20-30, 1 femaleunder 5 and p robably his wife, also 20-30. Who were all those tinykids? They had b een married only 4 years.

8/5/1850 Still there. That year the census taker found him with alar ge family, recording Jacob "Weisler" at age 49, farmer with $3000in re al estate, wife Sarah, 45, and children Owen, 21, Henry, 20,Jacob, 19, E lizabeth, 15, Ephraim and Sarah, 14, Susan, 12, Mary, 10,John, 8, Elij ah, 6, and Simon, 3, Next door was sister Ann "Gundey"with brother S amuel next to her. In the same township were brothersMichael, Henry, a nd George.

7/4/1860 Same place, PO Camp Charlotte. His name was Jacob Whislerin t hat census. He was 58, still farming and the estate had grown to$5150 /1000. Sarah was 54, children in the house were Ephraim, 22,Sarah, 20 , Mary, 18, John, 16, Elias and Simon, 14. Next door wasbrother Samue l, followed by nephew Levi, 28.

1880 Same place. At census time he lived between brother Samuel andso n John. Jacob was 78, a retired farmer, and wife Sarah was 76.Living w ith them were daughter Mary, 38, and granddaughter, Elva O,15, listed a s a servant.

Jacob remained at Salt Creek most of his life.
FindaGrave says he died in Tippecanoe Co, IN.
