Atth e 17th Conference of the Evangelical Association, June 7-10, 1824,held i n Strassburg, York County, Pennsylvania, Henry Wissler wasaccepted int o the itineracy as a circuit riding preacher. He was thefirst circuit r ider for the Evangelical Association from Ohio. He wasassigned to the Y ork Circuit and his first year's salary was $35.88plus traveling expen ses.. During 1825 he rode the Canton Circuit andin 1826, he was ordain ed a Deacon and rode the Somerset Circuit.Henry continued to be a circ uit rider (Schuykill, 1827; Lancaster,1828...salary $41.76; Somerset, 1 829) until 1830 when he "located".Henry served as secretary to the 182 9 E.A. Mary was 48 and in the familywere C atherine, 16, Jonathan, 14, Fanny, 12, Mary, 11, and Elizabeth,7. Nex t door was brother George. Brothers Jacob, Michael, andSamuel also li ved in that township.
1860 Where was Henry that year at census time? On the road? Maryand E lizabeth were in Montgomery county all alone.
6/22/1870 Jackson Twp, PO Circleville, Pickaway Co, OH. That yearthe c ensus taker found the family living with son Jonathan. Henrywas liste d as a 76 year old preacher, Mary was 67 and daughterElizabeth, 21, wa s a dress maker. Henry had no property at all.
7/12/1880 Webster, Madison Co, IA. Before the next census the familyh ad moved west. Henry was recorded at age 86, Mary was 76.Daughters s till at home were Fanny B, 43, and Elizabeth A, 37.Henry's occupation w as minister and he was crippled and blind.Ephraim Welty lived next do or followed by son Jonathan's family.
