"Disappearance of Sullivan Man, Charged with Larceny, CausesS tir
Disappearance of James Farlow, under a charge of grand larceny,ha s revived a claim that Farlow was implicated in several recentoffenses i n Sullivan.
Farlow's arrest on the larcey charge was on complaint of Mrs. BobN eaves, who resented her husband's arrest without Farlow being takenint o custody. She accused Farlow of being with Neaves when it isclaimed t hey stole some metal from a Sullivan plumbing establishment.
Following Farlow's arrest he was allowed his freedom without bondp ending a preliminary hearing. He did not appear for the hearing.About a y ear ago an effort to convict Farlow for the burglary of theMeeker conf ectionary failed.
The arrest of Neaves and Farlow was made several days agofollowin g a disturbance in which it is claimed that Neaves fired abullet which n arrowly missed Ralph Misenheimer, employee of the citywater department , and that Neaves menaced Deputy Sheriff HalacLansden with the gun bef ore he was arrested.
Mrs. Neaves based her warrant against Farlow on a claim that herh usband and Neaves brought some of the stolen metal to the Neaveshome. F arlow, it is claimed, took his share of the metal to Decaturor Springf ield where he disposed of it and bought liquor. Later itis claimed Fa rlow assisted Neaves in melting the remainder of themetal to make iden tification impossible and then made a trade withNeaves for the loot.
Discussion of the activities of Farlow has revived a claim thatit w as his liquor that was found in the house near the Seass fairgrounds w hen Joe Miller, alledged bootlegger, was fatally wounded byDeputy Hala c Lansden during an effort to search the house. Millerdied a few hour s later without making a statement, and in theinquest, Farlow testifie d that the liquor in the house belonged toMiller and that Deputy Lansd en fired upon Miller in self defense.
According to the story involving Farlow in the ownership of theli quor, it is claimed that Farlow came into possession of somemerchandis e stolen from a Sullivan store and took it to another city, believed to b e Springfield, where he sold it and bought a stock ofliquor which he b rought back to Sullivan and secreted it in the emptyhouse on the fair g rounds tract."
