John was said to be the 9th child of Andrew and Ann.

VA. He served with brothers, Jacob, Adam and Christopher under CaptJo hn McCoy in the VA Militia during the Revolutionary War.
10/10/1774 Point Pleasant. He received an arm wound during thatbattle .
Apparently when the rest of the clan moved to KY, he stayed behind fora while.
From A History of Pioneer Families of Missouri:
"John Zumwalt, a brother of Adam, settled on Darst's Bottom, in St.Cha rles co. in 1806. The names of his children were George, John,Barbara, M ary, Elizabeth, Adam, Andrew, Jacob, Henry and William.Andrew Zumwalt w as a devoted Methodist, but his three daughtersjoined the Baptist chur ch, and their mother said she was glad of it.But the old gentleman was v ery angry, and said he hoped, now that hisfamily was divided among the c hurches, that some of them would findthe right one and get to heaven, a nd be contented when they gotthere, and not want to go somewhere else. "

1806 St Charles District of the Louisiana District of the IndianaTerr itory, later St Charles, MO. He was the last of the 6 brothersto migr ate there but his route was direct from VA.
Darst Bottom, MO. He received a land grant of 640 acres, probably forh is service in the Revolution.
8/15/1808 Howard Co, MO. He and son-in-law, Alexander Murdock,bought N athan Boone's interest in Boone Salt Lick. (John's son Henrywas marrie d to Nathan's daughter.) The bill of sale was issued inFemme Osage an d Daniel Boone, Nathan's father, signed as witness.The Boone Salt Lic k was the beginning of the famous CaliforniaOverland, Santa Fe and Ore gon Trails.
Some say he died 2/27/1821.
