"John Pope lived most of his life in Isle of Wight County, Virginia.He d ied sometime before July 1751 at an advanced age in SouthamptonCounty, V irginia, south of the Blackwater and Nottoway Rivers on theNansemond C ounty boundry.....
In the Isle of Wight County Rent Roll 1704, John Pope owned 250 acreso f land. On January 21, 1707/1706, John Pope and Susannah Pope,Planters , sold Walter Waters 5,000 pounds of tobacco, 200 acres inthe Lower Pa rish of Isle of Wight County that had been bequeathed toJohn Pope and h is brother Thomas Pope in the the Will of the fatherof Thomas Pope on A ugust 10, 1691, and that had not been divided inthe lifetime of Thomas P ope; witnessed by Edward (E) Wood, George(ON) Morrell, and William Jol ly.
On March 12, 1747/48, the boundry of John Pope south of the Blackwatera nd Nottoway Rivers adjoining Nansemond County, Virginia was ?William H art and Joseph Curl.
SOUTHHAMPTON CO VA WILLS
John (P) Pope made his will in Nottoway Parish, Southampton County,Vir ginia on January 1, 1748/49, and it was probated on July 14, 1751.His w ill mentions:
son John Pope, one shilling current Virginia money;
son and executor William Pope, use of the home plantation of 100acres, g ift of feather bed and furniture;
daughter Mary Darden, 2 pewter dishes and 2 pewter basins;
grandson Henry Dardin, horse, cow, and calf, and gun;
daughter Sarah Barnes, share of residue;
witness Isaac (J) Johnson, Nathan Pope and Howel Edmunds.
On April 12, 1753, William Pope presented Southampton County Court thei nventory of the late John Pope, of whome he was the executor: horse,br idle, saddle, feather beds and furnishings, 9 pewter dishes, 18pewter p lates, iron kettle, brass kettle, copper skillet, 3 ironpots, chest, t able, 19 cattle, 29 hogs, and 12 sheep.
