Daniel W. Haskell served with Company K of the 14th Illinois regiment.C ompany K was raised at Scott County with William Camm, the Exeterschoo l teacher as Captain. On the morning beginning the battle ofShiloh, Da niel was badly burned and for six weeks couldn't openhiseyes. After be ing in the hospital in St. Louis and a stay at home,he returned to his r egiment. He was appointed Color Sargeant andfought in the seige of Vic ksburg, battles of Corinth, Hatchie and thecampaigns around Natchez Lo uisiana. He was discharged in June of1864.
Oddly enough, he ended up being burned to death.
In 1880 he lived next door to brother John with their mother next toJo hn. Daniel was 40 years old, Sarah was 37 and they had 3 children,Mau d, 9, Fritz, 5, and Dovey, 4. Daniel was a farmer.
