Eliza and her sister were raised by their uncle, Francis and Elizabeth
J Powell Kirtley.
Her will, dated 22 Aug 1826, stated that she lived in Morgan County,Ge orgia; gave "a certain negro lad by name Anthony" and otherpersonal pr operty to daughter Sophia Jenkins of Alabama; gaveproperty to grandchi ldren Sally, Lucy, Nancy, Patsy, Molly, Mary,Thomas, Jeremiah, and Joh n Lewis (all identified as children ofdaughter Patsy Lewis), grandchil dren James Fortson, Thomas J. Allen,and Elizabeth White, and son James H ead; appointed "my much belovedson James Head" as executor; and mentio ned son-in-law John Lewis.250
