"The first land probably taken up in Towamencin was a grant ofone t housand acres from Penn's commissioners of property to BenjaminFurley, J une 8, 1703. This was purchased nine days later fromFurley's attorney s by Abraham Tennis and Jan Lucken, who, in 1709,divided it, each taki ng five hundred acres. This tract embraced thenorthern part of the to wnship and extended to the present Skippackroad, and perhaps as far do wn as Kulpsville. Here they settled andmade the first improvements, a nd even to this day the descendants ofJohn Lucken or Lukens retain a p ortion of the ancestral tract.....
On the list of 1734 we find only the name of William Tennis with2 5 acres, but in 1776, Samuel Tennis was 192 acres, and William andIsra el Tennis. They possessed an old burial-place in the southeastpart of t he township, though the name has now become extinct in thissection."
Samuel and Violet sold their interest in land to her brother Samuel:
"Jean McElvain, Samuel Tennis and Violet Tennis, his wife, convey toSa muel McElvain their interest in the tract of 190 acres on LostCreek, F ermanagh Township, Cumberland County PA....it being theirright to that t ract of land which was surveyed to Agnes McElvain inpursuance of a war rant from the Proprietaries of said State, bearingdate at Philadelphia , the 17th day of May, 1768."
