Dick Lindley stated that Jonathan "joined with fellow Texans under BenM ilam to defeat General Cos in the Battle of San Antonio in the fallof 1 835. He returned to San Antonio around March 1, 1836 to helpdefend Te xas from the Mexican Army led by Santa Anna and was kiled inthe Battle o f the Alamo on March 6, 1836."
The Republic of Texas posthumously granted Jonathan's heirs bountyland o f 1280 acres in Panola Co, TX for his gallant service at theAlamo; cer tificate #9132 dated 14 May 1839, patented 9 Mar 1860.
His father served as administrator of his estate, worth about $1500,co nsisting of this tract of land as well as a land grant of 640 acrestak en out in Polk co,TX on 3 May 1835
