1850 Franklin Twp, Washington Co, IN. That year 18 year old farmer,Oron Bortell, was head of the household that consisted only of thePorter family: Collison was 45, farmer, born in NC; Elizabeth, 31,born in Ala; and children: William, 22, James, 18, Cornelius, 13,Isaac, 10, Elizabeth, 7, John, 4, Francis, 1; plus Elizabeth's Daileychildren: James, 15, Nancy, 14, and Martha, 8, all born in IN. Allthe older boys were farmers as well. Three doors down was cousinJames Dailey, followed by sonThomas Porter, then cousin Peter Dailey.

7/24/1860 S Okaw Twp, Coles Co, IL, near Mattoon. The family hadmoved west before the next census time. Listed as Collisten, he was57 years old,, a farmer with property worth $600/300. Elizabeth was46 and they had a large household: Cornelius, 21, Isaac, 17,Elizabeth, 16, John, 13, Francis, 10, Charles, 8, and George, 6. Nextdoor were Elizabeth's daughter, Mary and Manuel Floyd, followed byElizabeth's son, James and Rachel Daily.

8/16/1870 Same place. The census recorded Collison at 66, a wealthyf armer with property worth $6500/550. Elizabeth was 56 and in thehousehold were John, 23, Francis, 20, and George, 15. Next door wasthe family of son Cornelius Porter. Three doors down the other waywas Elizabeth's son-in-law, Emanuel Floyd.

Abt 1871 Bates Co, MO. They moved west with Collison's children byth e first marriage.

6/23/1880 Charlotte Twp, Bates Co, MO The census taker listed him asColoson Porter, 76, born N Carolina, farmer. He had a large householdconsisting of Elizabeth, 67, born TN, children: George, 24, and James,46, both born in Indiana; Isaac, 18, Charles, 14, and grandchildrenBell Porter, 12, Frank Howard, 24, Mary Howard, 23, and greatgranddaughter, Minnie Howard, 3, all born in Iowa. The 2 oldest sonswere farmers but James was disabled because of chills & fever, therest of the men worked on the farm. Next door was son Frank and hiswife.
