Notes for Charles Edgar PURVIS


He was a farmer and raised stock.

3/9/1860 Nelson Twp, Moultrie Co, IL. He joined the Church ofChrist.

Following the death of his father, he and the single sisters lived ont he home place until the death of the oldest sister, Mary.

In 1884 he was a charter member of the Allenville, IL, ChristianChurch a s were sisters, Mattie, Fannie, Mary, and Dulcena.

1900 E Nelson Twp was his residence, along with sisters MaryDulcemia, F annie, at census time. He was a farmer.

N Worth St, Sullivan, Moultrie Co, IL. Charles built a new home forhi mself and the remaining sisters. The sisters lived there untilonly Fa nny was left and she built a smaller home.

Abt 1916 E Jackson St, Sullivan. Charles and Hettie decided to moveo ut on their own and built a new brick bungalow.


His obituary said

"About fifteen months ago he was taken seriously ill. For someti me there was no hopes of his recovery. His wife failing in health,the y disposed of their home farm and moved to Sullivan.
Several days ago they went to West Baden in hopes of thebettermen t of their health. They returned Tuesday. Arriving inMattoon too lat e for a train they finished their journey in anautomobile. Getting ho me about 6 p.m. Soon after their arrival hebecame suddenly ill and pa ssed away before assistance was obtained.His ailment was gastritis...M r Purvis was of an unassumingdisposition, quiet, kind, conscientious a nd jovial. A good man,honest and upright in his dealing, charitable a nd free hearted."
"The funeral discourse was preached at the residence at 10:30a.m.Thurs day by Rev W B Hopper."
