Notes for James Henry PURVIS


Residences & events:

1860 Moultrie Co, IL. In the census Henry's occupation was farmworka nd he was still at home.

Apparently he leaned toward the Copperhead movement during the CivilWa r as pointed out in the McPheeters family letters:

9/6/1863 "Henry Purvis was riding by Travilion's a few days since.The o ld man (Squire Purvis) was on the side of the road. Henryshouted for V ollandingham. The old man replied that Vollandinghamwas a tory and so w ere all his friends. Very well done."

Another letter hinted at his personal relationships:

4/5/1863 "I expect you will hear of a wedding in this neighborhoodbef ore long. (Henry Purvis)"

9/1871 He paid a school tax for his property at T13 R6.

Mid 1870s KS. He loaded the covered wagon and started the westwardtr ek.

1877 Near Proctor, TX was where they next settled and many descendantss till live in that area.

1889 Near Dublin, TX was his address when his father died.

1900 Comanche Co, TX, where he farmed several thousand acres of land.
