Notes for John C BRACKEN


Residences & events:

1870 Jonathan Creek Twp, Moultrie Co, IL. At census time John andNan cy had 2 children and her aged mother living with them. He was afarme r with property = $1600/500, next door was the William Bolinfamily, al so Nancy's relatives.

8/13/1879 John and Nancy donated the ground surrounding the burialplo t of Nancy's family for the "Bolin" Cemetery. The deed states:

"The grantors, John C. Bracken and Nancy Bracken, his wife, of theCoun ty of Moultrie and State of Illinois for and in consideration ofOne Do llars, in hand paid, convey and warrant to the LinealDescendants of Ja mes and Nancy Bolin, and to Nancy Bolin of theCounty of Moultrie, Stat e of Illinois the following described realestate to be used as a famil y burying ground only.....it contains oneacre and sixteen square rods. "

Some of the family, most of them Purvises, built a mausoleum in 1913.S ix people were buried there when it began to leak and by 1969 allhad b een reinterred in Jonathan Creek cemetery.

1922 Sullivan, Moultrie Co, IL. He attended the Powell familyreunion , probably as a family friend and again in 1927 & 1928.
The death date posted is from his gravestone but relatives said hedied aug 29 1941. They also said he died on the day of the Powellfamily reunion which he always attended.
He and Nancy share a gravestone with son Emmet.
