8/4/1862 To aid in the Civil War efforts, he enlisted in Co A 2nd MOC av.
8/1864 Bentonville, Ark. While on a scouting mission he was woundedi n an encounter with the Confederate cavalry by buckshot fired "atprett y close quarters," as he said later in a pension application.
8/3/1865 He received a discharge and returned home to farm.
