The census taker recordedhi m as Frank, 22, a farmer, with older wife Hariet, 34.Step-children we re listed as his sons and daughters: Henrietta, 16;Catherine, 12; Hen ry, 8; male Armanda, 5; and his own daughter,Amanda at 3 mo. All the c hildren were born in IL but both parentswere born in TN (Frank was bor n in IL). Next door was widowedstep-mother Malinda.

6/2/1900 Crooked Creek Twp, Jasper Co, IL, where he was listed in thec ensus as a farmer with his wife and 3 teenage children. He was 39year s old, married 20 years to Hattie, 53, who had birthed 9 childrenbut o nly 5 still survived. In the house were Melvin, 19, Beatrice,16, and M elissa, 14. Next door were Wm & Allie Rice, cousinsperhaps?

4/25/1910 Still there. At census time Frank was recorded at 50,marri ed 30 years to Harriet, who had birthed 6 children, all living.Son Mel vin, 27, was still at home. Frank was a general farmer,Melvin was far m laborer.

1/27/1920 Hidalgo, same twp. That year at census time Frank was a 60y ear old widower, a general farmer with son Melvin, 35, laborer onthe f arm, as the only other one in the household.

Same address. At age 72, Franklin M was living with son Melvin'sfamil y but still working as a farmer. (It's more likely Melvin'sfamily had m oved in with Frank.)

"Franklin Marion Gipson was born November 31, 1859 and departed thisli fe at his home in Hidalgo, Illinois, February 13th, 1923, at theage of 7 3 years, 3 months and 2 days. he was born near Hidalgo andlived his e ntire life in that community.

He was married to Harriett A Kilbourn September 15th, 1870. To thisun ion four children were born: Mrs Amanda Reddick of St Jacob, Ill,Melv in Gipson of Hidalgo, Ill, Mrs Beatrice Haight of Greenup, Illand Mrs M elissa Brown of Champaign. He also leaves one step-son,Henry Kilbourn o f Hidalgo, Ill, four grandchildren, Mack Kelly ofCalumet City, Ill, Es ther Brown of Champaign, Ill, Harry and TonyGipson of Hidalgo, also ni ne step-grandchildren, Mrs Madge Willis ofToledo, Ill, Mrs Olive Brown o f Greenup, Miss Leota Hampton ofIndianpolis, Loren Hampton of Argenta, I ll, Mrs Lola Yelton, MrsBonnie Strader and Ira Hampton of Hidalgo, Mrs H ope Crook of St Louisand Mrs Ruth Mondon of Argyle, Ill. He is surviv ed by one sister MrsAmanda Smith of Champaign and other relatives and m any friends tomourn his passing.

He has been a member of the Missionary Baptist Church for many yearsan d will be sadly missed by his relatives and many friends because ofhis p leasant, friendly disposition and neighborly, good will towardall.

Funeral services were held at the Hidalgo Baptist church by Rev Johnsp encer and interment was made in the Aten cemetery."
