SOUTH BLOOMFIELD
Has a history that spans a period of over 100 years. The town was laido ut in 1803 by David Denny, who employed Gen. James Denny, later ofCirc leville, to make the survey. The plat embraced 40 acres of landin the s outheast part of section 10 and was divided into 80 lots. Thehopes of i ts founder, that South Bloomfield would become the countyseat, failed o f realization. During the early years of its history itwas a place of s ome importance, being on the regular line of thestage-coaches, running b etween Chillicothe and Columbus. With thewithdrawal of the stage coach es, the town subsided into a fairlyquiet existence. It has lacked adeq uate transportation facilities;the Ohio Canal was built a mile to the e ast, and the Norfolk &Western steam road and the Scioto Valley tractio n line wereconstructed two miles to the east.
David went west and engaged in boat building. He became a captain ofa r iver packet.
This probably the same David Denny who went to New Orleans with DavidV an Gundy and never went back to OH.
He died of yellow fever.
