There has been, and still is, a controversy as to Samuel's parents.Some say Peter Jr, some say Christian, Sr. Peter seems the mostlogical because:

10/1/1807 Chillicothe, Ross Co, OH. The local newspaper carried alist of letters left at the Post Office, among which was a Henry Beatyin care of S Gundey.
1816-1818 Green Twp, Ross Co, OH. As an early settler, he was listedon the tax lists each year, along with another Samuel Van Gundy. In1818 Peter Van Gundy was also in the same township.
1820 Green Twp, Ross Co, OH. He was living near Jacob and JohnVangundy, at census time but the census is hard to read.
1832 Shawnee Twp, Fountain Co, IN per History of Fountain Co byBeckwith.
1840 Same place, near Rob Roy, Fountain Co, IN.
8/7/1850 Same place. That census said he was 74 while Margaret was66 . They had living in their house son Samuel, 24; (granddaughter?)Eleanor Firebaugh, 20, born in OH; and Edwin R Keyt, 17, born in PA.Most of the daughters lived in a row down the road: Susan and DavidBookwalter. Elizabeth and George May, Sophia and William Hall, widowMargaret Bookwalter, with possibly a couple of grandchildren in thelineup: James Jones and John Firebaugh.
Some descendants say Samuel was born in Lycoming Co but that countywas c arved out of Northumberland in 1795, much later than Samuel'sbirth.
Some family listings say he was born 1773.
The death date posted is from FindaGrave but some descendants say itwas 3/27/1861.
