Pension application indicates Ambrose went to KY about 1785 but asshow n in other pension records below, they were not reliable withplaces an d dates. His father brought the rest of the family about1788-1789, pe rhaps following the large family of Bushes who arrived1780-1783.
1800 Clark Co, KY. The tax list again shows Ambrose along with hisfa ther and brothers, Simon and Thomas, Jr.
1809 Estill Co, KY. Ambrose was the only Powell taxed in the county.
1810 Estill Co, KY. In the census he and his wife were both over 45a nd had living with them 2 males 10-16 and 2 females under 10. Justdow n the road was George Van Buskirk, and farther down was brotherSimon. A lso living in the same county were 3 brothers-in-law,Cornelius Newkirk , Micajah Hall, and Samuel Eaton.
1817 He paid taxes in Estill Co but was on the move for the next fewy ears. He was taxed in Bourbon Co in 1818, back in Clark Co in 1819and t hen returned to Estill in 1822 where he remained until he died.

Pg 22: "On the 20th of August 1832 Ambrose Powell, aged 71 yearsappea red in Estill Co, KY. County Court and made oath. In the latterpart o f 1780, his father, Thomas Powell, was drafted in the militiafrom Oran ge Co, VA. Ambrose went as a substitute for his father forabout 2 mo. S oon after reaching home, he was drafted on his ownaccount & was out ab out 2 months again. He immediately went on tourfor Reuben Clark of Cu lpepper Co, VA. He has been in Estill County,KY. for 30 or 40 years.
Pg 23: On 20 Nov 1832, Ambrose appeared in Estill Co court, aged 74ye ars. He was drafted into service in 1780 in Louisa Co, VA, andserved 6 m o. In 1781 he volunteered as a substitute for ThomasPayne. He went fr om Louisa Co, VA. He was born in Louisa Co, VA, in1758.
In Dec 1832 he made a supplement and said he was born in Culpepper Co,V A, January 18, 1761. He was living in Orange Co, VA, when he wentinto s ervice. After the war he moved to Albermarle Co, VA, where helived ab out 1 1/2 years before moving to Estill Co, KY.

A letter in the pension file from Marium Barton of Louisville, KY,10/2 6/1906, says John B is her father, Ambrose her gr father. Shemarried # 1 Hiram Bellis & #2 ______ Barton. In the 1850 census sheis called Ma ry Bellis. Marium's youngest sister named her 1stdaughter, Marium, & i t is spelled that way on a grave marker insouthern Illinois.

10/26/1906 Mrs Marium Barton, of 1808 Magazine St, Louisville, KY,"re quests to be granted land warrant on account of military servicesof he r grandfather, Ambrose Powell, in the Revolutionary War."
10/30/1906 "Respectfully referred to the Commissioner of Pensions,and t he writer so advised."
His will dated 10/30/1824 states:
"I Ambrose Powell of this county do make and ordain this my last Willa nd Testament. It is my will and pleasure to bequeath to my belovedson s and daughters the balance of my estate after having madeprovision of m y intended wife, Nancy Cavender, hereafter NancyPowell.
Item 1, I give into my grandson Killis (Achilles) Powell one negroboy.
Item 2, all my land and Negroes and their increase that I now holdwith m y stock, kitchen and household furniture to be equally dividedbetween m y sons and daughters, that is to say, Elijah, Colby, Reuben,Fielding, W illis, Sally Crofford, Milly, formerly wife of HonorPowell. In that c ase it is my wish that Milly's children shouldinherit their mother's p roportion of my estate with her brothers.
Last I consider my son Reuben Powell and James D. Offutt to be myExecu tors of this my last Will and Testament. 10/20/1824, N.B.
It is my request that if any of my children should bring any accountag ainst me or my estate after my death that they shall not inheritany pa rt or parcel of my estate real and personal."

October 29, 1824."
