Notes for Francis PLACE

The Place or Plaice family, was said to originate in Durham, but the"visitation of Oxfordshire, 1563-64," also lists some generations of afamily in which the given names of Francis and Rowland occur.

From Genealogy.com forum:

Francis Place had daughters named Mary and Margaret from his deed ofgift to them: 8/11/1655 Lancaster Co, VA. Francis Place conveyed atract of land formerly in Isle of Wight County, Virginia containing300 acres patented by him September 7, 1654 for transporting 6persons, lying on the North side of the "freshes" of the RappahanncokRiver about ten miles above Nazemum Town and certain cattle by deed ofgift to 'My daughter Mary Place when she arrives at 18 years,' if shedies without heirs, then 'to daughter Margaret Place, my youngestdaughter.'" Mary had married Thomas Powell by 1666 when they deededthis same land to James Coghill....

This was actually in Lancaster County, Virginia.Nazemum Town is not"Nansemond" County which is now Suffolk, VA and borders Isle of WightCounty. There are quite a few land grants with the same descriptionthat clearly show Nazemum/Nanzemum Town was Lancaster Co."
